PROJECTS OF EXCELLENCE

There are more than 6,200 project ideas available at your fingertips! Log on now to the National Student Project Database on the NatStuCo website for ideas from other schools and to submit your own successful projects.

School Pantry Millard South High School, Omaha, NE

This student council started its own student pantry after school staff informed members that 27 percent of the student body qualifies for free and reduced-price lunch, far higher than a neighboring school. Open every Friday, the pantry offers perishable and nonperishable items and serves more than 20 families per week.

Leadership Retreat Schimelpfenig Middle School, Plano, TX

Each year, this student council hosts an in-school retreat for all members who attended at least 80 percent of the meetings. The retreat is a day of learning, leadership practice, and team building. Members plan the calendar for the next year and engage in fun problem-solving activities.

National Council of Excellence Awards Open

Each year, middle level and high school student councils that demonstrate exemplary leadership, service, student engagement, and general operations are recognized as National Councils of Excellence (NCOE) or National Gold Councils of Excellence. Visit the NCOE webpage to apply and “Go for the Gold” this year.

NatStuCo Adviser of the Year Nominees Sought

Stand up and be recognized. Each year, NatStuCo recognizes outstanding advisers at the state, regional, and national levels with the Warren E. Shull Award. The online application for the 2018 awards is now open. Deadline to apply is December 1, 2017. Information about nomination procedures and the application can be found on the Shull Award webpage.
