Sole2Soul Mission Day

Piedmont High School, NC

Council members and SGA officers went to a Sole2Soul Mission Day to give out new socks and shoes to the surrounding community. Families received a sit-down meal and clothing, and were able to take home food for their families. Students sat down with the children, talked to them, and handed out new shoes. Our student government and council members enjoyed being able to help out in the community.

Dress Down Days 2017

Hilltop Country Day School, NJ

Every Friday, Hilltop Country Day School holds a dress-down day and charges $2 to participate. This year we decided the proceeds would go to the March of Dimes. Since Hilltop has a school uniform, the entire student body and teachers look forward to the opportunity to wear more casual clothing. Last year, we were able to donate $1500 to our chosen charity, The Seeing Eye, which trains and provides rescue dogs for the visually impaired.

Trending in the Adviser Online Community

After any extended time away from school, students often need a jump start to get back into the swing of things. Student leaders are no exception. Visit the Adviser Online Community to share strategies that have worked to kick-start your council after a holiday or other long break.

Student Council Tips and Tools

During the holiday season, donations to food and clothing closets are plentiful, enabling those organizations to serve community needs. Those same organizations see a drop in the level of giving after the new year, but the needs continue. Student councils can help fill a void by including mid-winter clothing and food drives among January and February project plans. Contact local charities to determine the greatest needs and then go make a difference. Visit the Plan Projects and Activities page in the Adviser Resource Center and the National Student Project Database for ideas and guidance. Learn more »
